๐Ÿ“ธ The Saga Continues

From Brazil to California โ€” the adventure never stops

"
Remember the clown car in Trancoso? The kids doing capoeira on the beach? Making movies and playing games until sunset? The beach town road trips along the California coast?

And yes... we remember The Wall Painting Incident. Lessons were learned. Deposits were discussed. We are wiser now. (Mostly.)

This time, we trade the ocean for the desert โ€” and the clown car for a dome. Fair warning: there will likely be no monkeys doing ninja courses this time. The desert has its own magic.

๐ŸŒŸ Epic Experiences

Unique things to do in and around Landers & Joshua Tree

๐Ÿ”ญ

Stargazing at the Dome

Joshua Tree is an official International Dark Sky Park. Our property's elevated lot offers pristine views of the Milky Way, planets, and meteor showers. Bring a blanket, lie by the pool, look up.

โœจ Jessica's Pick: "This is both creepy and amazing at the same time." โ€” Professional astronomers bring incredible telescopes right to you for a two-hour tour of the universe. "What you see through the telescopes is insane." She did this last time at Joshua Tree and says with 11 of us it could be really worth it. Not exactly cheap, but unforgettable.

Every Night + Pro Option

Giant Rock

The largest freestanding boulder in the world โ€” almost 7 stories high. Sacred to Native Americans, later the site of 1950s UFO conventions. A short drive from the house.

5 min drive
๐Ÿค

Pioneertown & Pappy & Harriet's

An 1880s-style Western town built for movies, now home to cool shops, artists, and legendary BBQ & live music at Pappy & Harriet's. Don't miss the live show.

20 min drive

Joshua Tree National Park

Two desert ecosystems collide in this surreal landscape of twisted trees and massive boulders. Sunrise in the park is a spiritual experience.

Desert Movie Night

Remember the movie-making in Trancoso? Round two โ€” but this time, we film in the desert with Joshua Trees as our backdrop. Or just do a poolside movie night under the stars.

Rock Scrambling & Bouldering

Joshua Tree is famous for its massive boulder fields. Kids (and adults) can climb, scramble, and explore to their hearts' content. No ropes needed for the easy stuff.

In the Park

๐Ÿฅพ Family Hikes

Easy to moderate trails perfect for all ages

๐Ÿฆด Skull Rock Nature Trail

๐Ÿ“ 1.7 miles loop โฌ†๏ธ Easy-Moderate

Massive boulder fields perfect for scrambling and adventure. The skull-shaped rock formation is iconic. Great for wildflowers in spring โ€” and that's exactly when we'll be there!

๐Ÿ”๏ธ Barker Dam Trail

๐Ÿ“ 1.1 miles loop โฌ†๏ธ Easy

Wander through boulder fields and Joshua Trees to a dam built by cattle ranchers in the 1900s. Native American petroglyphs along the way. Allow about 1 hour.

๐ŸŒต Cholla Cactus Garden

๐Ÿ“ 0.25 miles loop โฌ†๏ธ Super Easy

A short boardwalk through a dense garden of "jumping" cholla cacti that glow golden at sunset. Quick, easy, magical. Don't touch the cactus! (They literally jump onto you.)

๐ŸŒ„ Ryan Mountain

๐Ÿ“ 3 miles roundtrip โฌ†๏ธ Challenging

For the adventurous crew โ€” climb to 5,456 feet for the most breathtaking 360ยฐ panorama in the park. Best at sunrise or sunset. The reward at the top is unreal.

๐ŸŒด 49 Palms Oasis

๐Ÿ“ 3 miles roundtrip โฌ†๏ธ Moderate

A true desert oasis โ€” hike over a ridge and descend into a hidden canyon with real palm trees and a spring. Feels like discovering a secret world.

๐Ÿ“ 1 mile loop โฌ†๏ธ Easy

A mysterious enclosed valley surrounded by massive boulders, once used by cattle rustlers to hide stolen herds. Kids love exploring the "secret" valley.
